FAQ

What flour do you use?
I use Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free All Purpose Flour for the gluten free line. It contains garbanzo bean flour, potato starch, whole grain white sorghum flour, tapioca flour, and fava bean flour.

What flour do you use for the keto baked goods?
I use gluten free almond flour.

Does this contain dairy?
Most of my items are in fact dairy free.

Does this contain eggs?
My breads are made without eggs. Many items that do contain eggs I can make with egg substitutes. However the brownies are more challenging and I have to alter the recipe significantly.

Is this fresh?
Yes, I bake to order.

Are these your own recipes?
Yes, I have either adapted them or like the bread etc I created them from scratch over a long tedious process.

Do these contain corn?
No they do not. My cornbread however does.

Are these nut free?
Technically yes they are. However, the facility the flour is produced at is not nut free however Bob’s Red Mill has an excellent reputation.

Is the sourdough bread gluten free?
Yes it is. I created a starter with the same flour I bake with.

Why isn’t the bread as big as it is in the summer?
Gluten free baking is extremely difficult. It is very sensitive to temperature, humidity and weather changes. My bread is moist so even more sensitive. It is much harder to get it to raise and perform in fall and winter months in my region due to that and in the summer it might raise too fast.

Do I need to refrigerate it?
Brownies, cookies etc. do not require refrigeration however your bread etc. will last longer in the refrigerator. The higher the moisture content the quicker things can mold if left on the counter.

Do your products freeze well?
Absolutely. I’ve frozen and thawed my breads etc. many times. After the third time of the same item I started to notice slight drying.

Are your plants organic?
Yes. While some of the seeds are not organically sourced, many are. I use the highest quality certified organic seed starting mix and potting soil. I supplement with locally sourced organic compost.

Is your produce organic?
Yes however due to government regulations, I am not certified organic so I must use the words “natural” or “no chemicals added”. I do not use any chemicals on my farm.

Are your plants ready to be transplanted outdoors?
Yes, generally by the time you purchase them, they have been hardened off which means they have been outside and are accustomed to the weather. You may occasionally see wind damage etc as I do my best to acclimate them to all weather conditions. Some plants I sell in early spring such as peas, lettuce, kale etc may not be hardened off completely yet.

When can I plant outdoors?
It is specific for each area and my best advice is to ask the neighbor that lives closest to you and has a garden. For me, I’m near the Chilco mill and I prefer to wait til the first week of June for frost sensitive plants. For others such as lettuce etc I plant late April/early May.

Can I plant seeds anytime?
Each variety requires specific temperatures in order to germinate (sprout). An easy way to know the soil temp is with a cheap thermometer and just stick it in the soil. However, even if soil temperatures are safe if we are in a rainy period and the ground is soaked, I always wait as the seeds may rot before they get a chance to sprout.

Will your plants do well in our area?
Yes. I grow plants that are proven for our area. Most of the plants I offer I have grown many times. But I do love to grow plants so I love to try new ones but I will let you know if it’s a new one for me.

If You have any questions that are not mentioned above, please use my contact form and ask.  I look forward to hearing from you!
